Writing Checks With Your Mouth

On this podcast episode, we discuss the miracle Jesus performed when he produced a fish with the temple coin tax in its mouth (Matthew 17:24-27). In this miracle story, we see Peter fall into a trap that would hold Jesus accountable to pay a temple tax. Peter told the collectors that Jesus is responsible to pay for the tax without first confirming with Jesus. Although Jesus told Peter after the fact that he was not responsible, he still made provisions to pay for himself and for Peter. Peter wrote a check with his mouth that Jesus had to pay for. Jesus is the insurance for our lives. No matter what we get ourselves into, Jesus can provide a way out for us. He will use our talents and teach us a valuable lesson in the process. While we are responsible for our own actions and words that may have very real consequences, we have a safety net through God. "Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand." (Isaiah 41:10)
