I Pity The Fool Chasing After Things

The Parable of the Rich Fool is found in Luke 12:13-21.  Jesus offers a life lesson on chasing after the things of the world, specifically money. In this parable a rich man acumulated abundant wealth and when he earned more he built a bigger storage house to store up the surplus for the future. Unfortunately tomorrow is not promised and he was not able to take the surplus when he died. Instead of using his time to chase after God and giving away the surplus to those in need, he chased after wealth and stored it for himself. Wealth that he could not take with him, wealth that could have been a blessing to others. This is why Jesus calls him a rich fool because he spent his time chasing after wealth and not salvation. He may have money but he was foolishly focusing on that instead of seeking the Kingdom of God first. Mark 8:36 says "For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his soul?" In a culture that draws our attention to material things and chasing wealth, we often forget that there are those in need, we forget that our time and money is better well spent serving God and serving others. How we spend our time and money reveals what we value. What does your time and money reveal about your values? If you are like me, you probably need to start reevaluating what you are focused on and giving you time and money. I'm sure there are better ways for us to spend our time and money and if we do not know, the Holy Spirit can lead us and give us direction if we invite the Holy Spirit into our lives. Our God will supply all our needs if we are obedient to him and align our actions with his will. Let us not be foolish in this life and give up our entrance into everlasting life.
