A Bite of Humble Pie
The Parable of the Pharisee and Tax Collector is found in Luke 18:10-14. Jesus shares this parable to demonstrate the difference between the prideful sinner and the humble sinner. Jesus explains that the person who comes before God humbled and with repentance will be justified over the one who comes before God boastful of his good deeds. For no man is above reproach and we all fall short. Jesus concludes the parable by stating " ... For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted." Luke 18:24. This is a kingdom principle. Sometimes humility can be a hard lesson. Knowing that being prideful and boastful can lead to humiliation should be enough for us to humble ourselves. However, there are many who will still learn the hard way. Don't let your pride get in your way. "Put on then, as God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience" Colossians 3:12
